in Piedmont's Barolo Wine Country in Italy
Cooking Tour Itinerary
town of Serralunga & Barolo vineyards
Please note: Walks are optional. If you have other interests and would like to do some things not in the itinerary, just let us know and we can change the daily plan for you.
Day 1
Private transport from Turin train station or airport to Barolo. You have to arrive by noon.
3:00 p.m cooking lesson with Chef Franco on five Piedmont appetizers.
8.00 Full menu dinner including your five appetizers
Day 2
Drive to La Morra, Italy with spectacular views of the Barolo wine valley. Optional walk (1 hr.) in the vineyards to visit Renato Ratti wine museum, housed in the Abbey of the Annunziata where wine production began in 1162. Personalized tour with one of the Ratti family.
Light Lunch on your own. (not included)
Return to the hotel to relax.
Drive to hill town Verduno. Early evening full menu lesson at Real Castello. Visit Real Castello wine cellars with winemaker Gabriella Burlotto. Dinner of your creations at Real Castello.
Day 3
Visit historic Marchesi di Barolo winery in town of Barolo, Italy--"Where Barolo began". Former summer home of the Marchese di Barolo,
200 year old barrels in former stables, "wine library" going back to 1800's. Very hospitable present owners preside over your Italian wine tasting in their pretty shop.
Visit unique medieval castle, expanded in 1340, in Serralunga with ingenious architectural features that kept most invaders out.
Fascinating visit with local castle guide and incredible views from the top!
Drive to a family's farm for a typical country lunch. With their six children, the family makes all their own cheeses and salami,
raises hens, cows, and other animals and grows fruit and vegetables. Giovanni may show you how he makes his cheeses. Enjoy great Italian country hospitality and marvellous views!
4:00 Full menu cooking lesson in hamlet of San Rocco, 4 km out of Alba, at a good trattoria.
Free time. You could visit Alba, the hub town of the area (pop 30,000) with small, but lovely medieval centre with towers like San Gimignano in Tuscany, many good stores, gastronomy stores like "Sins of the Throat", outdoor food market and old cafes.
8:00 Dinner of your creations at the trattoria
Day 4
Visit the Barbaresco wine country. Choice of strolls to explore hill towns of Neive and Barbaresco
or walk one to two hours on pathways through the very scenic hills and vineyards.
Light lunch on your own (not included).
Visit a winery in the Barbaresco area, like a small family owned one just outside the town of Barbaresco.
Afternoon full menu Italian cooking lesson with with Chef Esther, owner of a great restaurant in town of Barbaresco.
Free time.
Dinner on the restaurant terrace overlooking the vineyards.
Day 5
Departure after breakfast. Private transport to Turin or Alba train station.
Note: Itinerary is subject to minor changes. We will do our best to keep changes to a minimum.
