4 Night Italy Cooking School Tour Itinerary
Day 1
Post-cruise tour: Disembark ship after breakfast in Venice. Arrive in Bologna by private transport about noon.
Pre-cruise tour: Arrive in Bologna airport or train station. Private transport to Bologna’s centre.
Check into four star hotel in historic centre of Bologna. Light lunch in Bologna. Guided walking tour of Bologna.
Drive to picturesque little hill town, Dozza, famous for its castle and its murals, for a walk and typical Romagna dinner at a great restaurant in Dozza.
Day 2
Leave early to drive to a parmesan cheese factory to see all the stages the men go through to make parmesan cheese—fascinating—like witnessing a birth, as the cheese emerges from the big vats. See where and how it’s aged in huge warehouses (like a gourmet FortKnox) and taste young and mature parmesan right with the producer.
Drive to a balsamic vinegar producer to see how they make this treasure, learn how the industrial, supermarket balsamic vinegar is completely different from the traditional balsamic vinegar aged in ever smaller barrels of different woods. Taste 12 and 25 year old vinegars—like liquid velvet in your throat.
Lunch at an excellent restaurant near Modena, featuring dishes made with parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar.
Back to Bologna by mid afternoon. Free time in Bologna for the rest of this longer day.
Day 3
In the morning walk in Bologna’s central market, a warren of ancient streets lined with irresistible food shops, stands and delis with your cooking teacher.
Leisure time for shopping and exploring. Lunch on your own.
In the late afternoon, enjoy a hands-on cooking class at a private home with an excellent home cook to learn traditional dishes of the region. Dine on your dishes with the family around their table.
Day 4
Drive to Ravenna to walk with a local guide and learn about its world famous Byzantine mosaics and architecture. Light lunch in Ravenna’s centre at an osteria serving tasty local food and wines.
Drive into the countryside for a three hour hands-on cooking school class with a great home cook and expert on hand-made pasta. Learn to make traditional pastas of Emilia-Romagna. Dinner of your creations at 150 year old farmhouse set among olive trees.
Day 5
Pre-cruise tour: Private transport from Bologna to Venice cruise ship.
Post-cruise tour: After breakfast, depart to Bologna airport or train station with our private transport.
