Cooking Tour With Five Chefs And Explore Tuscan Towns

Experience every day life with a wonderful range of warm, local people in the Tuscan countryside and Pisa, San Gimignano, Volterra and San Miniato. Cook hands-on with an exuberant chef in her Pisa restaurant, a creative chef in a excellent country  restaurant.  As you dine, you feel like insiders, the chef’s friends.  Cook and dine with two great home cooks and their families in their town and country homes so you feel almost part of the family. Experience real Tuscan life!

Your local guide, soon friend, takes you on walking tours in Pisa, San Gimignano where you drink the renowned white wine, Volterra known for its Etruscan art and San Miniato famous for its white truffles.

Live at a farm B&B in a lovingly renovated historic home with simple Tuscan country style rooms, about 50 km southwest of Florence and 60 km north of Siena. Just walk through the sunflower fields to the little town, Montaione. Get to know the friendly family owners, laze by the pool, stroll in the organic garden, or just sit and admire the sweeping country views.

Itinerary

Tuesday

Meet at San Miniato’s train station (on the Florence-Pisa line) between 5 to 6 p.m.

Welcome dinner at  the farmhouse, cooked by your host, Loredana.

Wednesday

With outgoing Chef Stefania at her restaurant in Pisa, learn how to make a full menu Tuscan dinner and enjoy a delicious, multi-plate lunch complemented by great Tuscan wines. Your local guide will take you on a guided walk to discover the “leaning tower town” with free time to explore.

Drive back to the farmhouse to relax. Enjoy another wonderful dinner cooked by Loredana, accompanied by good Tuscan wines.

Thursday

Learn to make pizza in a wood-fired oven with a family in the country.

After lunch with your local guide, explore picturesque hill town of San Miniato, famous for its tower and white truffles. San Miniato was once home to emperors in the 12th century, so is steeped in history with its old palace, cathedral and narrow cobbled streets. After meandering through the town, visit a renowned winery and sample their red and white wines and Vin Santo.

Loredana serves you another typical Tuscan dinner at your country home.

Friday

With your guide, explore Volterra, a fascinating hill town, famous for its Etruscan art and museum, alabaster as well as its Roman and Medieval history and art. Lunch in a typical restaurant in town.

In the late afternoon at a lovely country inn’s excellent restauarnt, cook recipes based on Italian Renaissance ones with the creative Chef Bartolo. Dinner of your creations with wines suggested by their sommelier.

Saturday

Morning hands-on cooking class in an old country style Tuscan kitchen by home-cook Emanuela just outside San Gimignano, based on traditional recipes and saffron specialties. Lunch of your creations around her dining table.

Excursion to San Gimignano, famous for its medieval towers and white Vernaccia wine and lovely countryside. The beautifully preserved medieval centre has a variety of piazzas, churches with frescoes by Ghirlandaio (Michelangelo’s teacher) and Gozzoli, palaces and cafes where you sit back with a glass of Vernaccia and watch local life go by.

Dinner at your country home of more of Loredana’s fine food.

Sunday

Morning cooking class at home with Loredana to make a variety of pasta dishes. After sharing your farewell lunch and a wee rest, transfer to San Miniato’s train station.

After a week in this special region, take with you memories of your all too short taste of Tuscan country life with delightful local people and a host of recipes and cooking skills.
